Indoor Videography With a Light
When shooting indoors, there are a number of things you must be aware of to increase the brightness of the shot. One of the most fundamental is using an on-camera light.
The main issues with on-camera lights, especially for wedding videos, is that they usually tend to be on the bright side and it annoys people. The light can also bother the photographer because it will interfere with their shots.
I have a few suggestions on how to manage a light better when videotaping an event such as a wedding:
1. Put diffusion paper on the light. It softens the light, makes shadows less harsh, and will get rid of those harsh highlights on people's skin.
2. Leave the light off when you don't need it. Try shooting at the widest angle on your camera. The reason this helps is that unless you have a fixed aperture camera, the wider the angle, the wider the aperture can open. This will let in more light and will make it less necessary to have the light on.
3. If your light tilts, aim it slightly towards the floor. This will direct the harshest parts of the light away from people's faces and will make it easier to expose properly for them.
